Next Trip: December 4-19, 2025 | 16 Days

Embark on a transformative journey that combines spiritual service, Himalayan trekking, and cultural immersion. This expedition begins at Pema T’sal Monastery near Pokhara, where you'll engage in hands-on volunteer work to expand a vital health and dental clinic serving local children and Tibetan refugee families. Tasks include demolishing walls, rebuilding treatment spaces, and upgrading sanitation facilities.

Following your service, traverse the Lower Mustang region—an arid, culturally rich area within the Annapurna range shaped by centuries of Hindu and Tibetan Buddhist traditions. Visit sacred villages, ancient monasteries, and dramatic canyon landscapes, all set against sweeping views of Nilgiri and Dhaulagiri.

Any additional funds raised will support local schools along the trekking route, providing educational supplies and resources to students in remote Himalayan villages.

“Words cannot describe what this experience has meant to me and the impact it’s had on my life. I’ve fallen in love with Nepal, it’s people, and it’s beauty.

— Rob W., 2020 Trip Participant

Where Service Meets Spirit

Partnering with a Monastery to Strengthen Health and Education in Nepal

Mission

This journey invites us to engage in meaningful service and spiritual exploration. At Pema T’sal Monastery, you'll contribute to the expansion of a vital health and dental clinic by assisting with demolition, reconstruction, and sanitation improvements. Your efforts will enhance healthcare access for children and families in the region.

Beyond the monastery, your impact continues. Additional funds raised will support schools along the trekking route, providing essential resources such as educational supplies and uniforms to students in remote Himalayan villages.

This is more than a trip; it's an opportunity to connect deeply with Nepal's spiritual traditions, support community-led initiatives, and experience the transformative power of service.

Background

Nestled in the hills near Pokhara, Pema T’sal Monastery serves as both a spiritual sanctuary and a hub for community development. Here, young monks receive education, and the monastery extends its services to neighboring villages and Tibetan refugee communities.

Our journey continues into Lower Mustang, a region renowned for its unique blend of Tibetan Buddhist and Hindu cultures. The landscape features ancient monasteries, sacred caves, and traditional villages, offering a profound connection to Nepal's spiritual heritage.

A highlight of the trek is a visit to Muktinath, one of Nepal's most sacred pilgrimage sites. Revered by both Hindus and Buddhists, Muktinath emobides the five elements—earth, water, fire, air, and ether—and is home to an eternal flame that has burned for centuries.

Project Scope

In collaboration with our Nepali partners at Pema T’sal Monastery, we aim to:

  • Expand the Health and Dental Clinic: Assist in demolishing a cramped interior wall to create a more functional treatment space, rebuild structural elements, and renovate a deteriorating bathroom to include a Western-style toilet and improved sanitation facilities.

  • Support Educational Initiatives: Allocate additional funds raised to provide school supplies, uniforms, and other essential resources to students in villages along the trekking route.

This project responds to a direct request from Lama Tashi, the head monk of Pema T’sal Monastery, to expand the monastery’s health and dental treatment room. All work is carried out in close collaboration with community leaders, using local materials, and guided by the values of humility, respect, and hands-on service.
