Established in 2016 following the Gorkha earthquake, we began as a small effort to raise funds for Langtang Valley survivors.
Our campaign united over 40 people to fundraise, rebuild homes, and go on a first trek in the Himalayas. In a bit over 8 months, we raised $50,000 USD to aid disaster relief and create jobs in a struggling economy.
Encouraged by great feedback, we created a vision and built a team who share a belief in expanding our fundraising efforts to make a bigger difference. Our main aim is to enhance voluntourism and provide crucial help to faraway areas worldwide.
On April 18, 2018, Trek Relief registered as a nonprofit and is now helping people in Nepal, Mongolia, Chile, and Peru.
Candice Young, who started Trek Relief, met Dr. Rob Williams at a teahouse in Nepal while trekking in the Himalayas in 2016. She shared about the suffering people she met in Langtang Valley and her wish to help fundraise for them, and he suggested some ideas. Together, they dreamed up Trek Relief - and the rest is now history.
