Everest Medical Project: Nepal
Looming at a jaw-dropping 8,848m/29,029ft elevation above sea level, Mount Everest is a holy grail for the adventurous traveler. Charming lodges and bakeries, ancient monasteries, and unworldly views spur trekkers to challenge themselves to new heights. Supported by the tourism economy, there are ample resources to provide a safe and comfortable experience to visitors.
However, in stark contrast to the Everest trail’s facilities, the untouched lower Everest region is direly lacking. There is a severe medicine shortage and healthcare workers are under-equipped due to a restrictive government budget. In a region commonly reporting dental, eye, and skin-related ailments, medical specialists and proper treatment are virtually nonexistent.
We invite both non-medical and medical volunteers off the beaten path to this verdant land, where training hikes and volunteer work will prepare your body and soul before helicoptering out to the main Everest Base Camp trail. Funds raised in this campaign sponsors desperately needed medical equipment and supplement medicine stocks, as well as enables our 2-day volunteer health clinics.
View the Medical Volunteer Work page to learn more about our medical program and equipment that we shall sponsor.
Volunteers from all medical professions are welcome to join, especially dentists, optometrists, and dermatologists. Your visit can provide healthcare that may never have been experienced before in this region.
Non-medical volunteers are also eagerly requested to help in schools, to support students with English pronunciation and conversational practice. In a country that measures education by English competency, volunteers will be providing students valuable exposure to English that they would not have otherwise.
View the English Teaching Project page to learn more about our program and a list of material donations requested by the schools.
