In the aftermath of the devastating floods that impacted Nepal, Trek Relief’s team recently completed a vital project to restore a flood-damaged classroom in the remote village of Khavre. Despite the challenges posed by the flood’s destruction, which left the classroom buried under mud, rocks, and fallen tree trunks, the school continued to operate, serving 91 resilient students. Many of these children had already suffered the loss of their homes and loved ones.

A Hands-On Approach to Rebuilding

Over two intense days, Trek Relief’s dedicated team of four volunteers worked tirelessly to clear the classroom site. Armed with shovels, pickaxes, and a machine, they removed mud and debris, demolished a damaged wall to improve access, and prepared the site for the upcoming reconstruction. The team's efforts have set the stage for restoring the walls, windows, and seating, ensuring the students of Khavre can soon return to a safe, functional classroom.

In total, Trek Relief was able to fundraise and contribute the $10,000 goal to complete the restoration efforts, which will enable the restoration of the classroom. The team also delivered two duffels of warm sweaters to local families affected by the floods, reinforcing Trek Relief’s commitment to holistic community support.

Community Support and Gratitude

Local leaders expressed immense gratitude for Trek Relief’s immediate and impactful efforts. They emphasized the importance of receiving outside aid for the community, which has not been received since the floods 2 months ago. The local involvement was also crucial, with three hired laborers and teachers contributing their time to help clear the site, along with team members from our local partners at The Small World.

Trekking with Purpose: A Unique Experience

After the project work, the team had the opportunity to explore the Annapurnas, experiencing some of the most breathtaking mountain views and cultural landscapes from Khopra Ridge. The journey combined exploration with meaningful community service, leaving participants with a deeper connection to the region and a strong desire to return for future programs.
