Volunteer in Nepal 2025: The Monastery Project with Trek Relief in the Annapurna Region

This December, Trek Relief returns to Nepal for a journey that blends movement and meaning. The Monastery Project is a 15-day expedition rooted in service, reflection, and cultural connection—set in the hills just outside Pokhara, and unfolding along the sacred trails of the Mustang Region within the Annapurna range.

A Trek With Intention

The Monastery Project began with a simple request from Lama Tashi, head monk of Pema T’sal Monastery, a spiritual and educational center that serves as both a cultural refuge and a community anchor.

Our goal this December is to support the monastery in expanding its health and dental clinic. Volunteers will assist in demolishing a narrow, cramped treatment room and help rebuild it into a more functional and dignified space. In addition, we'll renovate a deteriorating bathroom to include a Western-style toilet—an upgrade that will directly improve sanitation and care for monks, patients, and community members who rely on this small but critical facility.

But our impact won’t stop at the monastery gates. As we trek through the Mustang region, we’ll also be supporting education initiatives along the way—delivering school supplies, uniforms, and essential learning tools to students in villages that are often overlooked by traditional aid efforts.

Built on Trust, Designed for Impact

Our partnership with Pema T’sal Monastery is rooted in years of mutual collaboration. The monastery has long supported underserved communities through free health clinics, cultural preservation, and youth education. It is both a sacred site and a social hub—a place where tradition meets the everyday needs of people who live in its shadow.

Everything we do in this project will be grounded in local leadership. We’ll work with materials sourced nearby, and we’ll move at a pace set not by us, but by those who know the land best. That’s the Trek Relief approach: show up with humility, act with care, and let the work speak for itself.

Walk With Us

The Monastery Project runs from December 4–19, 2025, and registrations are now open. If you’re ready to experience Nepal differently—to travel with purpose, not just for perspective—we’d be honored to have you join us.
