Langtang Valley School Rebuild Update: Overcoming Challenges Together
Rebuilding a school in Nepal’s Langtang Valley has been a journey of overcoming obstacles and fostering collaboration. Despite cultural differences and local tensions, the Trek Relief team is proud to share significant progress toward completing this vital project.
Resolving Challenges and Building Transparency
When misunderstandings arose about the management of school funds, our team facilitated a face-to-face meeting with all key stakeholders, including:
Our architect, Buddha Gurung
The School Principal, Madhav Lamichhane
The Village Ward Chairman, Singi Dindup Tamang
The School Chairman, Nurbu Tshring Tamang
Trek Relief Executive Director, Candice Young
Our dedicated trekkers
During this meeting, we clarified financial details, including the total funds Trek Relief has contributed ($29,549) and the remaining amount available. To ensure public transparency, control of the funds and labor contracting was transitioned to a newly formed school committee. With all misunderstandings resolved, the meeting ended on a positive note, with smiles and signatures from everyone involved.
Rebuilding with Community Support
The Ward and School Chairmen demonstrated their support by joining our volunteer efforts the following day. Thanks to their collaboration, the school rebuild is progressing smoothly, providing much-needed jobs to local men and women. The walls, constructed from hand-chiseled stone, are nearing completion.
Exciting Plans Ahead
We’re on track to finish the school by the end of 2019, and plans for a school handover ceremony trek next year are already in motion. This incredible achievement is only possible thanks to our generous donors. Your support is transforming lives in Langtang Valley, and we can’t wait to celebrate this milestone with you.
