Nepal Flood Relief Update: Classroom Restoration Complete in Kavre

In the wake of the September 2024 floods in Nepal, the rural village of Kavre was left devastated. Among the damage was a vital classroom—reduced to unsafe rubble—leaving 91 students without a safe place to learn. Thanks to your generous donations and the on-the-ground work of Trek Relief volunteers and our partners, that classroom has now been fully restored.

This is more than a milestone. It's a symbol of resilience, education, and the life-changing power of volunteer-driven flood recovery efforts.

Hands-On Impact from Day One

Before setting out on our 2024 Annapurna trek, Trek Relief’s Nepal team made a purposeful detour to Kavre. Over the course of two full days, volunteers engaged in direct service, working side by side with the community.

Here's what we have accomplished:

  • Cleared mud, debris, and boulders from the site

  • Demolished unsafe, collapsed walls

  • Prepped the site for reconstruction of new walls, windows, and seating

  • Delivered warm sweaters to flood-impacted families

This initial work laid the physical and emotional groundwork for recovery—bringing safety and dignity back to the students and teachers affected.

A Rebuilt Classroom for 91 Students

Today, because of your generosity—our incredible community of donors, supporters, and volunteers—the classroom is fully restored—filled once again with the sounds of children learning, laughing, and moving forward. A teacher from the school recently shared photos of the final rebuild, and the transformation is inspiring.

This wasn’t just a construction project. It was a promise of safety, dignity, and opportunity for the 91 students who depend on that space to grow and thrive.

We are deeply grateful to our on-the-ground partners, The Small World (@thesmallworldnepal), who ensured this project reached completion. And to you—our Trek Relief family—thank you for proving that travel with purpose creates lasting change.

Because of you, a classroom lives again. And a brighter future is now possible.
