Wise ways to give
Before the end of the tax year, take a look at your giving plans to optimize your gifts. Below are just a few ideas on how you can help Trek Relief:
Stocks and mutual funds
Appreciated securities or mutual fund shares, which you’ve owned for more than one year, are excellent charitable gifts. You’ll receive a charitable income tax deduction and avoid capital gains taxes. If you itemize, you will be able to deduct the full current fair market value (up to 30% of your adjusted gross income). Please inform us if you are a stock gift will be eligible for an employer matching gift contribution.
Gifts of real estate
Gifts of unmortgaged real estate provide a unique giving opportunity and may serve your long-term financial goals well benefiting truck relieves current and future work. Trek Relief accepts limited gifts of real estate, including arrangements for retained life estates that allow you to remain in your home after gifting it to Trek Relief. Gifts of real estate are subject to review by Trek Relief.
Your traditional IRA
There is a special opportunity for you if you’re 70 1/2 or older and have an IRA. If you do not need your Required Minimum Distribution (RMD), you can donate it to Trek Relief. It will not count as income but will qualify as your RMD.
Charitable gift annuity
This is a good option if you want to make an impactful gift but retain benefit from the money you have given. A charitable gift annuity currently pays up to 9.5% a year for life and the entire amount may be eligible for tax deduction this year.
Donor advised funds
Donor advised funds provided a flexible low-cost method of giving which supports our work. Consider placing two or three years’ worth of gifts into your donor-advised account, then distributing the funds to your favorite causes over a two or three-year period. You achieve a deduction this year by counting the entire gift, even though you leave money for forthcoming gifts in the account.
