Rebuilding Hope: A School at the Bottom of Langtang Valley
During our latest trek, an unexpected detour caused by snowfall led us to discover a pressing need—a completely ruined school at the bottom of Langtang Valley, in Syabru Besi, the trek's starting point.
This school once served as a hub of learning for local children. Now, its devastation forces kids as young as 3 years old to trek an hour uphill to the nearest school. We are deeply moved to take on this project and provide these children with a safe, accessible place to learn and grow.
Progress So Far: A New Beginning
With just one day of volunteer work, we’ve already made strides:
Cleared significant amounts of rubble from the site.
Assessed the remaining structure, which will likely require complete demolition to ensure safety.
Begun planning for a fully rebuilt school that meets modern earthquake-resistant standards.
Next Steps: Turning Vision into Reality
To bring this school back to life, we are collaborating with key stakeholders, including:
The School Principal and District Education Officer.
Local Village Officials and Engineering Consultants.
Nepalese Government Authorities to ensure compliance with permitting and earthquake-resistance requirements.
Our goal is to create a modern, safe, and welcoming space for the children of Syabru Besi to learn and thrive.
Access to education is a fundamental right, and for the children of Langtang Valley, this rebuild is more than a structure—it’s a beacon of hope and opportunity. By rebuilding this school, we’re not just restoring a building; we’re strengthening the future of an entire community.
Snapshots of Progress
Each step forward is made possible by the compassion and determination of our volunteers, donors, and supporters. Together, we’re creating lasting change—one brick, one classroom, one child at a time.
