Blueprints for the Upcoming School Build in Syabru Besi

Exciting progress is underway for our school rebuild project in Syabru Besi, Langtang Valley. Earlier this month, our architect from Kathmandu visited the site to meet with key school officials, community leaders, and the District Education Officer, Shukadev, to align on the next steps.

Securing Permissions and Support

After a series of productive meetings, the District Education Officer has agreed to grant permission for the school rebuild, contingent on the school committee’s assistance with the application process. Understanding the critical need for this project, the school committee has committed to submitting the necessary paperwork to move forward.

The Road Ahead

Here’s what’s next for the project:

  1. Rubble Clearance and Site Preparation:

    • By next year, the site will be cleared and ready for construction.

    • Initial construction will begin with 3-4 workers at a labor cost of approximately $10 per day.

  2. Navigating Weather Challenges:

    • The summer monsoon season may slow progress, but we’re committed to steady, sustainable development.

  3. Site Management and Budgeting:

    • We’re actively searching for a long-term site manager to oversee the project and turn architectural plans into reality.

    • In the coming weeks, our architect will deliver a detailed budget with a line-by-line breakdown of costs.

Key Roles in the Rebuild Effort

  • Architect’s Contributions:

    • Handle all necessary paperwork.

    • Provide architectural plans and detailed cost breakdowns.

    • Source the best-priced construction materials between Syabru Besi and Kathmandu.

  • Community Support:

    • School committee member Rishang will help recruit local labor.

    • Binoy will manage payments and on-ground logistics.

  • Volunteer and Fundraising Efforts:

    • Trek Relief will spearhead fundraising initiatives and organize volunteers to support the project.

A Collective Effort for Education

This school rebuild isn’t just about constructing a building—it’s about creating opportunities and a brighter future for the children of Langtang Valley. With the collaboration of local leaders, community members, and global supporters like you, we’re transforming this dream into reality.

Stay tuned for more updates as we continue to make strides on this exciting journey.
