Updates from Langtang Valley: Progress and Hope in Rebuilding

We’re thrilled to share updates from our fundraising beneficiary, the Langtang Management and Reconstruction Committee, as they continue their incredible work to rebuild the Langtang Valley. Their mission is to rehome the Langtangpas and restore their teahouses, enabling them to once again host Himalayan trekkers and regain their livelihoods.

Here’s the latest update from Lhakpa Tamang, the committee’s Secretary:

**“Langtang was one of the most affected areas by the April 25, 2015, earthquake. The main settlement of Langtang was completely swept away, claiming more than 400 lives. Now, more than a year and a half later, much progress has been made. Most of the Langtangpas have returned to the valley, and rebuilding efforts are helping bring life back to normal.

Here’s what’s been accomplished so far:

  • Rimche: Two hotels are rebuilt and ready to welcome guests.

  • Lama Hotel: Six hotels have been rebuilt and are open for visitors.

  • Riverside & Woodland: Rebuilding is complete, and both are ready to serve.

  • Ghora Tabela: One hotel is rebuilt and open for guests.

  • Thankshyap: Four hotels are rebuilt and ready for visitors.

  • Gumba Kangtanshah: Four teahouses are rebuilt and open.

  • Langtang Village: Ten hotels are rebuilt, accommodating up to 60 tourists.

  • Mundu Village: Five hotels are rebuilt, offering a capacity of 40 guests.

  • Sindium Village: One tea shop is rebuilt and welcoming visitors.

The largest settlement, Kyanjin Gumba, now has 25 rebuilt hotels with a capacity of over 300 tourists, as well as two functioning bakeries, including the well-loved Dorje Bakery.”**

A Community Rebuilt

These updates are a testament to the resilience of the Langtangpas and the collective efforts to restore the valley. The Langtang Valley is ready to welcome trekkers once again, offering both natural beauty and the warm hospitality of its people.

We’re deeply grateful to everyone who has supported these rebuilding efforts. Together, we’re helping the Langtang Valley not only recover but thrive.
